Resided In: Elliott, IA Carl Verner Alm, age 93, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Accura Healthcare in Stanton, Iowa. Carl was born November 2, 1923 in Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Carl W. and Alice Media (Johnson) Alm. He attended country school through the eighth grade and later served a short time in the Marines. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Jean Nelson, on February 8, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived one year southwest of Red Oak and then moved to their home one mile west of Elliott. Carl farmed his entire life. He had one of the first hog confinements in Montgomery County. He raised hogs and cattle along with row crop. Carl was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church where he held many positions most recently being the Chairman of Finance for many years. He served on the Griswold School Board for three years and many years on the Montgomery County Board of Review. Carl loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with his family, playing cards and board games, and spending winter vacations in Mesa with special friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Phyllis on June 17, 2010; sisters: Edith Rabe, Grace Lucas, Viola Johnson, and Anna Allen; and brother: Darwin Alm. Survivors include his daughter: Carla Mueller and husband John of Elliott, IA; grandchildren: Bradley Mueller and wife Melissa of Elliott, IA and Allison Conry and husband Nick of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren: Carter James Mueller and Jacob Ray Mueller of Elliott, IA; brother: Leonard Alm of Griswold, IA; sister: Lillian Madden of Red Oak, IA; many nieces; nephews; and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Elliott United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-7:30 PM Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott United Methodist Church. Nelsaon-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
