Red Oak Chapter of Questers
Evergreen Cemetery is proud to be uplifted by the Red Oak Chapter of Questers. This organization operates at local, state, national, and international levels and the Questers mission statement:
"Questers keep history alive by supporting preservation, restoration and education".
The local chapter supports the mission statement with several activities involving the Evergreen Cemetery. The ‘Stories in the Stones’ re-creation/re-enactment walk and historical presentation is done yearly. This event showcases about 10 families of Red Oak/Montgomery County and at the family burial site, an ‘actor’ recreates life back in the day with dress, and historical speech. Patrons to the event pay a small ticket price for the guided walking tour and the monies raised are returned in renovation projects at the cemetery. The Questers current adopted project is the renovation of the brick entrance pillars that are located along 8th Street.
Friends of the Red Oak Trails
The City of Red Oak and Evergreen Cemetery are proud of their affiliation with the trails project, and a shared partnership has created an enhanced visual and usage bond. Both the cemetery and trails organizations work in collaboration towards a growth process of enhancing our trail system, and keeping its operational status in a clean and safe manner. FOTROT (Friends of the Red Oak Trails) is currently working towards adding an arboretum to the area near the Eastern Ave. trailhead.
Live Well Montgomery County and Montgomery County Memorial Hospital
Both the Live Well and MCMH organizations play a large part in keeping a growing partnership active with the City and Evergreen Cemetery. The cemetery is host site to the Community Garden and Community Orchard projects. The garden and orchard projects are volunteer based areas where fruits and vegetables are grown and numerous pounds are returned to the community in avenues such as food banks and other food insecure assistance avenues. Live Well also supports the community with informational avenues on growing, preparation, and training in and around the garden areas.
Montgomery County Court of Honor
The Court of Honor and the cemetery have the oldest and most impressive partnership, dating back many years. The Court of Honor is the guardian and driving force in securing and displaying the over 1600 Veteran Flags that are utilized to honor our departed Veterans on Memorial Day. The cemetery and Court work together through out the year to place more sockets for flag poles, locate and replace necessary sockets, and general tree and grounds maintenance to support this most beautiful and humbling display. The Court is also involved in nearly every Veteran burial, providing Military Gravesite Rites to the Veteran’s family.
Restored BN Depot & WWII Museum
The Restored Burlington Northern Depot & World War II Memorial Museum is a cultural and historical cornerstone in Red Oak, Iowa, dedicated to preserving the town’s railroad and military heritage. Housed in a restored 1903 depot, it offers exhibits on local railroad history, World War II, and other military stories, while serving as a community event space. With free admission during regular hours, year-round access by appointment, and a strong volunteer base, the museum is a welcoming destination for visitors and locals alike, deeply integrated into Red Oak’s community fabric.
The Red Oak Depot played a huge role in the creation of our veterans memorials database. Without their partnership, the restoration of 700+ veteran memorials would not have been possible.
